Florence, Alaabama and Historic North Alabama a wonderful historic place!  Florence was named for Florence, Italy and streets were layed out by Ferdinand Sanonner from Italy.  Florence is a wonderful Old Historic College town on the banks of the Tennessee River that is full of history...a little battered by the Civil War, it has several historical places to visit.  There is "Pope's Tavern and Museum which was used as a hospital during the Civil War and before that a stop over for stage coaches and travelers.  Don't miss W.C. Handy's Birthplace, Museum and library where the "Father of the Blues" was born.  Across and down the street is some of the Best southern Bar B' Que that you will ever eat...Bunyon's Bar B' Que.  Also, don't miss the "Handy Festival" held at the end of July that runs for 10 days.  There is a street strut, music everywhere in the parks, restaurants, and on the streets and churches!!  Also, the Florence Indian Mound and museum which is full of ancient tools, pottery, and jewlry.  Don't miss the Frank Loyd Wright Home owned by the Rosenbaums and is the only Frank Loyd Wright home in the southeast that is open to the public.  The Marriott Shoals Hotel and conference center, overlooking the Tennessee River,  houses lots of people who come to this beautiful area to golf, fish, and just relax, listen to music, vist shops and explore!  The Robert Trent Jones Golf Course is across the River and accessed in just a few minutes.  Also across the river don't miss Helen Keller's Birthplace, the  Robert Trent Jones Golf Course, Historic Tuscumbia with a wonderful park named "Spring Park" and a wonderful restaurant named "Claunch Cafe" where thousands of people and dignitaries have visited and is named in the top 100 places to eat before you die and also featured in "Southern Living Magazine", lots of wonderful shops and galleries to visit also.  Sheffield also has wonderful old homes and some with fabulous views of the Tennessee River!
